The challenge
A game where the rules are the product
American mahjong has a dense rulebook: the Charleston, jokers, calls and counter-calls, and a card of winning hands. Most digital versions simplify it, and players who know the game notice immediately.
What we built

Built like software, not just a game
- A rules engine covering joker exchanges, calls from pung to sextet, and closest-seat priority
- Bots at difficulties from forgiving to sharp
- A Teaching Room with nine lessons, from "which tile is a Crak" to calling with confidence
- Online play for two to four players over Steam, with bots filling empty seats
- Hundreds of automated tests run on every change
